Description
Belgium is becoming a less attractive corridor for human traffickers, according to the country's Ministry of Justice. Figures released by the government body show the number of transmigrants - those passing through a country in the course of emigrating to another - has dropped from 13,000 in 2018 to 1,065 in 2022.
The Belgian Justice Minister, Vincent Van Quickenborne, and a Belgian police chief attribute the fall to more checks, a higher rate of convictions for traffickers, the systematic monitoring of victims' phones, and assistance provided by the UK. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
