Description
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador suggests that ormer public security minister Genaro Garcia Luna, convicted of aiding drug trafficking in the United States, could become a witness in the neighbouring country to reveal links between organised crime and high-ranking Mexican officials. "There is the possibility that García Luna will testify as a witness and I would say as president of Mexico, for the good of the country, that hopefully he will do so in exchange for revealing whether he received orders or informed the former presidents, both (Vicente) Fox and (Felipe) Calderon," says Lopez Obrador during his usual morning press conference. Garcia Luna, public security minister under Felipe Calderon's presidency from 2006 to 2012, was found guilty on all five counts following a high-profile trial in New York. SOUNDBITES
