Description
The Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington D.C. opens an immersive exhibit on migratory birds native to North, Central and South America. "If you go outside into the forest, many of these birds are hard to see because they tend to be high in trees. Here the birds come low, you can see them up close," explains research biologist Scott Sillett. The exhibit includes a tropical bird-friendly coffee farm, a shorebird aviary inspired by the Delaware Bay and a waterfowl aviary recreating the prairie pothole region of the upper Midwest. The Bird House will reopen on March 13th after a six-year renovation. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
