At first glance, it's just another house in a Brazilian favela. But this modest brick house in Aglomerado da Serra, a high-density working-class neighbourhood Belo Horizonte, has been granted the title of "house of the year" by specialist reference site Arch Daily. It stands out for aspects such as "safety and stability of the building, to environmental issues, environmental comfort, ventilation and natural lighting," says it's architect Fernando Maculan.
