Colombian former Senator Aida Merlano returns to Bogota, deported from Venezuela, to answer for a 15-year prison sentence for electoral crimes. The ex congresswoman had been detained in Venezuela since January 2020, where she had fled months earlier as a fugitive from justice. Then-President Ivan Duque (2018-2022), a fierce critic of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, had unsuccessfully requested her extradition from opposition leader Juan Guaido. IMAGES
