People on the streets of Moscow give largely favourable views of the 2014 annexation of Crimea, speaking on the ninth anniversary of the peninsula joining Russia after a contested referendum. "I, and my whole family, are very happy" says Elena Gavrilova, "because it is our territory and our relatives". Another of those questioned by AFP, Vladimir Savelyev, explains "this is reunification, this is the return of our peninsula, which was illegally gifted to Ukraine by Nikita Khrushchev."
