Description
People in Zimbabwe's capital Harare queue to cast their vote in the primary elections of the country's ruling party, Zanu-PF, which has been in power since independence in 1980. Zimbabwe is scheduled to hold presidential and legislative ballots but a date is yet to be set. Many speculate that it will be in early August. Rights groups and opposition parties have complained of an escalating clampdown ahead of the vote. President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who replaced long-time ruler Robert Mugabe in 2017, faces widespread discontent as he struggles to ease entrenched poverty, end chronic power cuts and rein in inflation.
