Description
A Senegalese court sentences opponent Ousmane Sonko to two months in suspended prison for defamation of a minister, a sentence that preserves his eligibility for the 2024 presidential election, according to lawyers. The verdict "does not deprive him of his civil and political rights he can remain in the political debate" says the lawyer for Mame Mbaye Niang. "We take note of this and we will exchange with our client to determine the next steps to take in response to this verdict," says Macodou Ndour, one of Ousmane Sonko’s lawyers. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
