Description
In the deserts of La Guajira, northern Colombia, dozens of craters ready for the installation of wind turbines occupy the land where the houses of local Wayuu indigenous community once stood. In 2016, representatives of Portugal's EDPR and Italy's ENEL multinationals asked Elba Jusayu's for permission to build one wind farm and the access road to another. The Jusayu family -- then-wealthy cattle ranchers -- rejected the proposal, sparking a bloody conflict that has left one dead, several injured and 34 displaced, according to Elba.
