Description
The solar power boom is facing growing opposition among US farmers and landowners in the Midwest, where companies are trying to buy land to build solar farms. In Callaway County, Missouri, where anti-solar signs have appeared on the side of the roads, the debate has deeply divided the community. Opponents gather regularly to discuss their concerns over the loss of farmland and change of landscapes, lead by Susan Burns, who thinks the solar projects "will bankrupt many of the agricultural businesses around." Meanwhile, several farmers such as Michael Graves have agreed to lease part of their property to solar firms. "It's going to be a steady form of income, you know, maybe into my retirement or for future generations," he tells AFP. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES ARRANGED IN SEQUENCES
