Description
The traditional 'Masquerades Party' brings together more than 300 masked people in the streets of Jaboticatubas, a Brazilian city in the state of Minas Gerais. To close the celebrations of Holy Week, called by the Catholic Church, people dress up in shabby clothes and mask their faces to set fire to the doll symbolising Judas Iscariot. In the past, the feast only had the Judas doll, but in 1974 a resident of the town decided to make Sabina, the imaginary wife of Judas; since then, the two characters have been displayed and set on fire in the town square.
