Description
On a visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Swiss President Alain Berset, whose country will hold the UN Security Council Presidency for a month in May, pledges to advocate for conflict victims in the country's troubled east when the Council meets. "We want to focus on those who are among the main victims" of insecurity, said Berset at a joint press conference with his Congolese counterpart Felix Tshisekedi. During his visit, Berset will visit camps for displaced people in Goma, capital of North Kivu province, where the re-emergence of a Tutsi-led group, the M23, has displaced hundreds of thousands of people since the end of 2021.
