Description
Dozens of activists of the Landless Workers' Movement (MST) and comedians of the National Theatre of Gent re-enact the Eldorado dos Carajas' massacre where 19 members of the MST were killed during a clash with police 27 years ago. Directed by the Swiss play writer Milo Rau, the re-enactment is part of a new interpretation of the Greek tragedy Antigone by Sophocles called 'Antigone in the Amazon that will be presented at the National Theatre of Gent in May 2023 before touring across European theaters.
Over the past, Landless Workers' Movement (MST) fought to settle "unproductive" plots of land held by the state or landowners, putting activists in the vanguard of campaigns against monocultures, genetically modified crops, forest conservation and inequality. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
