Description
Thanks to the hot springs of Bouillante, a small town in Guadeloupe, a geothermal plant, built in 1986, produces 6 to 7% of Guadeloupe's annual electricity consumption. The director of the plant, Francois Joubert, hopes to supply 20% by 2035. The plant, bought in 2016 by the Israeli-American Ormat, is the only geothermal unit producing electricity on French territory, thanks to the hot water reserves at just 1,200-1,400 metres below ground.
