The five windmills of Zaanse Schans, a short distance from Amsterdam, are perhaps best known as the backdrop for thousands of tourists’ selfies. So, it might come as a surprise to find that one of them, Verfmolen De Kat, is the only windmill in the world that still grinds pigments to make artists’ paints – using methods dating back to the 17th century.
