Portuguese, German and British investigators continue searching on the banks of a reservoir in southern Portugal, in a new effort to uncover information on the 2007 disappearance of British toddler Madeleine McCann. Three years old at the time, McCann went missing from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz and, despite a huge international manhunt, no trace of her has been found and no one has been charged over the disappearance". The new search was launched at the request of German authorities who, since 2020, have said they suspect the involvement of a jailed German multiple sex offender who spent several years living in southern Portugal.
