Description
Two-time Palme d'Or winner Ken Loach is in Cannes to speak about "The Old Oak", the latest and perhaps last in the 86-year-old director's career. It tells the story of a community in the "deprived" north-east of England which has to face the arrival of refugees from war-torn Syria, and how both communities face their respective difficulties.
It is a situation Loach says was partly caused by former Prime Minister Tony Blair's "illegal" war in Iraq, which, he says, "should bring shame to those who supported it and intigated it.... Tony Blair should be in front of the War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague, not making millions from his lectures."
