The smell of ageing whisky, known as the angel's share, wafts across from 9,000 oak barrels stored from floor to ceiling in two vast warehouses at Scotland's historic Annandale Distillery. "There is a huge whisky investment world on the rise at the moment," says David Ashton-Hyde, the general manager of the Distillery. Whisky investments are growing in popularity as the world faces stubbornly high inflation, boosted by record announcements in recent years, including the 2022 sale of a whisky cask for £16 million.
