Description
The Temple of Quechula, 16th century Roman Catholic Church, emerges from under the Grijalva River amid a drought and a deadly heatwave in Mexico. The church was completely submerged when the Malpaso Dam was constructed in the 1960s, and although it often partially emerges when water levels are low, drought has left it totally exposed. Tourists enjoy roaming around the remains of the building, but local fishers say the low levels of the Grijalva River are putting their livelihoods at risk. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
