In front of nearly a thousand people at an evening rally "for media independence" organized in Paris by Reporters Without Borders, a number of political leaders, trade unionists and media personalities came to support the striking editorial staff of Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD). JDD, one of France's biggest newspapers, is in turmoil after the shock appointment of a far-right editor whose rise to prominence underlines the rightwards shift of the country's media and politics.
