The rural Nevada town of Fernley is suing the US government to stop the ongoing repair of a 115-year-old earthen irrigation canal after it broke and flooded the town in 2008. Rancher Dave Stix says the changes to one of the oldest canals in the United States would eliminate leaking water that residents long have used to fill their domestic wells.
