Description
When Russian forces occupied the tiny eastern Ukrainian villlage of Stariy Karavan in May 2022, sixty-six-year-old Nadezhda Sereda stayed in her home, opting not to leave. The village was liberated by the Ukrainian army three months later and now, a year on, still without power and water, Sereda feels as if she is being punished for her decision. "Some people started dividing us between those who stayed here under the occupation -- people they didn't consider real humans -- and those who left and therefore truly love Ukraine" she explains.
