As the Russians attempt to retake the formerly occupied town of Kupiansk near the Russian border, the region has become too dangerous for civilians. In response to guided missile attacks, the Ukrainian authorities have ordered the 'mandatory' evacuation of parts of Kupiansk and nearby villages. Although labelled mandatory, the orders are not enforced, and some residents wish to stay. For those ready to leave however, the Red Cross is evacuating residents to the nearby larger city of Kharkiv, which is itself regularly shelled by Russia. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
