Description
Concerned farmers in south-west France are appealing to the government for help in the face of the spread of epizootic haemorrhagic disease (EHD), encouraged by unseasonably high temperatures caused by climate change. "The countries that imported import animal products from our region closed their borders the day after the disease was declared," explains Christian Fourcade, a cattle farmer in Azereix in the Hautes-Pyrenees. EHD causes fever, emaciation and respiratory problems, and weakens cattle. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
