Description
A decade after a wave of bankruptcies all but wiped out the German solar industry, the sector is looking to reestablish itself in the face of stiff competition from abroad. In the town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, in the east of the country, the solar module cell factory opened in 2021 by the Swiss company Meyer Burger on the former site of Q-Cells, a former German leader, is a sign of a possible renaissance. "We are the only mass producer of solar cells in the world outside Asia, and this is something of an exclusivity at the moment," says the Meyer Burger factory director, Jochen Fritsche.
