Description
Images of the US Army Corps of Engineers monitoring fresh water being pumped from a barge into a treatment tank on a shore south of New Orleans, Louisiana, as salt water is creeping up the drought-hit Mississippi River from the Gulf of Mexico. For the second straight year, water levels in the mighty river that cuts the United States in two have hit new lows. In some areas, they are so low that salt water is flowing into the river.
