Description
Taiwan People's Party presidential candidate Ko Wen-je says China's "one country, two systems" is a failure in Hong Kong and "will not succeed" on the self-ruled island during a briefing with foreign media.
Ko, a former Taipei City mayor, is currently in second place in opinion polls after vice-president Lai Ching-te of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP). The island's main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Party's candidate Hou Yu-ih trails in third place. Apple supplier Foxconn founder Terry Gou is running as an independent candidate but is trailing behind in fourth place.
"I am against the ruling DPP for not communicating with China at all. The Taiwanese government has no way to communicate with the Chinese government on behalf of Taiwanese companies," Ko says during the briefing. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
