Hundreds of protesters hold a demonstration in solidarity with Palestinians on Istanbul's Taksim Square, which has been closed to protests in Turkey for a long time. Accusing the US and the EU of remaining silent on the Israeli attacks on Gaza, Murat Ayar, one of the organisers of the protest, tells AFP the demonstrators "are here to expose the West's ugly human rights rhetoric," accusing them of explaining "all these murders, massacres and genocide by calling it Israel's right to self-defence."
