Bala Sivaraman drives an electric car around the US capital, buys secondhand clothes and furniture and cooks his vegan meals on an electric cooktop after he parted ways with his natural gas stove. The 28-year-old environmental activist also composts his food scraps at a community garden in an effort to help curb global warming and feel part of a like-minded community. "Living a life that is fueled by clean energy is so much more just freeing, and it's so much less anxiety-inducing because I know that I am not compromising my health," he says in his Washington apartment.
