Description
Hundreds of women gather for a rally in Istanbul called by the “We Will Stop Femicides" platform. They are one of the most vocal women's rights group in Turkey which and recently won a closure case bought by a Turkish prosecutor. The recent judicial crisis between Turkey’s two top courts dominate the agenda for the women protesting. Speaking to hundreds from a stage, Fidan Ataselim, the secretary-general of the group defies Turkish president Erdogan. ”He says 'our position is arbitration'. No one can be the arbitrator in this matter. Because nobody is above to the constitution,” Ataselim says. “The constitution is actually a basis for our rights” 23-year-old university student Ronahi Akyüz, who is at the rally tells AFP.
