Description
The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam opens its doors to voters for the Netherlands' general elections, with Amsterdammers able to cast their votes in the entrance hall before visiting the museum free of charge. The museum preserves the canalside house where the Jewish Frank family hid from the Nazis and the German-born Anne wrote her famous diary, one of the most haunting accounts of the Holocaust that has sold some 30 million copies. "We are very happy to welcome so many people to the Anne Frank House to cast their votes," the house's Executive Director Ronald Leopold tells AFP, adding that people "can cast their votes in a place that reminds us what happens when democracy and the rule of law disappear."
