The Palestinian flag has been raised at the Oslo City Hall in solidarity with the people in Gaza to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. "When we know that more than 5,000 children have lost their lives it is only natural to remember them today," the mayor of the Norwegian capital Anne Lindboe tells AFP. Fighting began on October 7 when Hamas militants poured over the border into Israel, killing 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping about 240, according to Israeli officials. Israel's subsequent air and ground campaign in Gaza has killed nearly 15,000 people, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run health ministry, and reduced large parts of the north of the territory to rubble.
