Description
Dubliners react to the death of Shane MacGowan, songwriter and lead singer of Celtic folk-punk band The Pogues, who died early on Thursday November 30 2023 at the age of 65. "Shane MacGowan was an icon of Irish music" says one of those visiting the Wall of Fame in Dublin city centre. "I personally think that November 30 is too early for Christmas songs" says a bar worker, "but I'll be playing Fairytale in New York tonight". MacGowan's widow announced that the musician -- who became an international symbol of Irishness -- had died following a long illness. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
