Several thousand people took to the streets in Bratislava on Tuesday to protest criminal code reforms planned by Slovakia's government criticised by the European Union and the opposition alike. The reforms include easing the penalties for corruption and economic offences as well as waiving whistleblower protection for police officers. The government last week also approved the abolishment of a specialised prosecutor's office that oversees cases of high-level corruption and organised crime in the EU country of 5.4 million.
