Description
As the world for the first time approved a call to transition away from fossil fuels, tackling the top culprit of climate change after years of avoidance, activists at the UN COP28 talks in Dubai say that while the deal is "historic" it does not go "far enough". Harjeet Singh, head of global political strategy at Climate Action Network International, says that the deal "leaves a lot of loopholes for the fossil fuel industry to continue to rely on unproven technologies". Similarly, Joseph Anthony Sikulu, Pacific Regional Managing Director at 350.org says that while the world has to "celebrate the fact that a transition away from fossil fuels has been made", "not enough is in there" to meet the increasingly elusive goal of checking warming at 1.5 degrees (2.7 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels.
