Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has revived a decades-old claim on the oil-rich Essequibo territory, which makes up more than two-thirds of Guyana's territory, mounting international warnings against an escalation of the row. In a controversial referendum on December 3, 95% of voters allegedly supported Venezuela being declared the rightful owner of Essequibo.
