Description
Residents of Georgian capital Tbilisi pay their respects to the award-winning filmmaker Otar Iosseliani, who died on December 17 at the age of 89, at a civil funeral outside his house. Iosseliani's films, known for their imagination and ironic aloofness, won him prizes at the Venice, Berlin and Cannes film festivals. "Words cannot describe all the pain we are experiencing today," Irma Sokhadze, a 68-year-old singer, tells AFP. "But to be honest, the pride we have for him, for his role in Georgian cinema, fills our hearts." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
