Kyrgyzstan's parliament has agreed to ditch the sunflower-looking emblem on its national flag in favour of a modified design which lawmakers hope will assert the Central Asian nation’s independence. The current red flag with a striped yellow sun representing a traditional Kyrgyz yurt made an “ambiguous” impression, according to parliamentary speaker Nulanbek Shakiev, who was one of the authors of the bill to change the design.
