Last year the Swedish post received an estimate of 16,000 letters from all over the world addressed to Santa Clause. Each year, these very intimate missives which are addressed to "Lapland", "Reindeer land" or "Santa's Igloo" land in the Scandinavian country where they are carefully opened and answered when possible. Throughout the years, Stockholm’s Post Museum has archived 10,000 of these letters, the oldest one dating back to 1987. "It’s a way of documenting this quite special phenomenon that a lot of children around the world believe that Santa Clause is living in Sweden," says Kristina Olofsdotter, head of the stamp department at Postnord.
