Description
Rubble and blocked roads are seen in the small district of Shiromaru in Japan's hardest-hit Noto Peninsula after the major earthquake. The small community, with an elderly population, is located on a cove on the eastern shore of Noto Peninsula. The tsunami, which local residents say must have risen to several metres high, ran up the main street and submerged Toshio Sakashita's house in about 2.5 metres of water. "We have received no public support here," he says. "Look, the main street is still blocked due to the rubble, which has been left untouched." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
