As Taiwan goes to the polls, residents of Pingtan island, the closest point in China to Taiwan's main island, say they support "peaceful reunification" with their smaller neighbour.
"Hong Kong has returned, Macau has returned, it's just Taiwan," retired local businessman Chen Suqing says, adding that he hopes for the Beijing-friendly Kuomintang party to win. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and has vowed to seize it one day. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
