For more than a century, Marc Bernhardt's family has run a dairy farm perched in the Saxon mountains in eastern Germany. But passing the torch to a new generation will be difficult, he warns. His production costs have risen since the war in Ukraine, and his electricity costs have jumped by "50%". In Germany, more than half of farm incomes depend on public subsidies.
