Description
"An object is more than material, it's a story" says Bart Ouvry, director of the Royal Museum for Central Africa, on the outskirts of Brussels, where a new exhibition is delving into the origins of the museum's vast collection. "ReThinking Collections" mostly features objects from what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, ruled over by Belgium between 1885 and 1960, first as the private property of King Leopold II and then as a colony. "We want to get a better idea of the origin of the objects" explains Ouvry, "and see if we can establish which were obtained through theft, violence or manipulation." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
