Description
At Veolia's incineration plant in London, some 1,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste are burnt every day, producing electricity and heating for thousands of homes in the surrounding area. The French group, one of Europe's leading players in waste treatment, sees the hunt for wasted energy as a path to "decarbonisation" and a new gold mine. "It's really untapped resource" says Veolia's chief executive, Estelle Brachlianoff, who adds that "30 percent of fossil fuel imports" could be cut in Europe if the method became widespread. IMAGES
