Description
Before Josselyn Caqui went to the hospital in Lima in her 15th week of pregnancy, her legs, hips, spine, and head hurt, and her body felt heavier. Instead of her unborn child, it was the Aedes aegypti mosquito, commonly known as the dengue fever mosquito, that was causing the 31-year-old's pain. Caqui is one of thousands of dengue infections Peru has seen this year, with record numbers of cases and deaths, due in part to the El Niño weather phenomenon. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
