Niculina Moica pushes open the gate of the former prison in Jilava, just south of Bucharest, where she was held as a teenager. In 1959, the now 80-year-old was convicted for joining an anti-communist organisation and jailed for five years in a facility that now lies in a state of decay, like many prisons closed following the fall of Romania's Communist regime in 1989. Moica, along with other ex-prisoners, is calling for such sites to be preserved. "It shows what happened during the communist period" she says.
