Description
As the war between Sudan's army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) enters its second year, Mohamed El Badry, an activist and lawyer, recounts how he fled Darfur, a region in western Sudan, to travel to Kampala, Uganda, with his family. "The journey was very long and difficult; it took us two months to reach Kampala", he says. "Shells were falling in front of our house", says his wife, Zahraa Ali, recalling the start of the conflict. Since it broke out on 15 April 2023, the war in Sudan has claimed thousands of lives, displaced more than 8.5 million people and destroyed the country's already fragile infrastructure, pushing it to the brink of famine.
