Large swathes of Afghanistan have had to contend with heavy rains and flash floods damaging houses and destroying crops. "These fields were planted with vegetables, but the flood destroyed everything," laments Adam Kan, a farmer in Herat. At least 33 people have been killed, some 600 houses damaged or destroyed, nearly 600 kilometres (370 miles) of road demolished and around 2,000 acres of farmland "flooded away" over three days, according to the government's disaster management department.
