Description
Togo’s ruling "Union pour la Republique" (UNIR) party will likely hold onto its large parliamentary majority in the country’s April 29 elections critics say. This is despite ongoing controversy surrounding the constitutional reform, approved by lawmakers earlier this month, to switch the country from a presidential to a parliamentary system – a change that opposition parties say will allow President Faure Gnassingbe to extend his grip on power. "We shouldn't expect much from the legislative elections. Already now, on the ground, we get the impression that the opposition is not very visible," says Jean Yaovi Degli, a lawyer and former parliament relations minister. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
