Description
In the streets of Lomé, the Togolese capital, people express their views ahead of legislative and regional elections, set to take place on Monday April 29 amid high tensions caused by the adoption of a new constitution. The move has been contested by the opposition, who see it as a way to prolong the reign of President Faure Gnassingbé and his family's decades-long grip on power. "We're tired of seeing the same family in power" says Komlan Gato, a building painter, "if these elections are transparent, there will be a change". Not everyone holds this view. "Gnassingbe can stay at the head of this country for as long as possible" says taxi driver Nutsugan Koffi, "I don't mind, as long as we're comfortable." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
